Premilary Task
Preliminary Exercise:
On Thursday last week we completed our preliminary task:
A continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in the chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. Demonstrate match on actions, shot/reserves shot and the 180-degree rule.
Technically, what is the 180 degree rule in the context of this task?
What is match-on-action?
Cutting on action or matching on action refers to film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. A common example is a man walking up to a door and reaching for the knob.
What is shot/reverse shot?
Shot reverse shot is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.
How did it go?
The overall thing went well considering it was our first time recording a short film with the equipment we were given to complete the task, we managed are time well in order to get the film recorded and edited to hand in for the task deadline.
What would you change/do better if you had the chance to do the task again?
Save time on the editing time of things however it was our first time using the program we were given to edit our footage but we did take along time to get used to it. Another thing would be finding a more spacious room because at certain times we couldn't all fit in the room due to the camera angle.

The 180° rule is when two characters in a scene should maintain the same left/right relationship to one another. When the camera passes over the invisible axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line and the shot becomes what is called a revers
