What was the task? The task we have been set by Mr Cole is going to be completed over the half term and we have been told to put together the opening two minutes of a film. It needs to include the following things; a lady/man aged 50+, on a bus/train, a spade, a streetlight, bright clothes. CHARACTER 1) How Important are characters particularly in the opening 2 minutes of a film? Characters are important in a film because they signify the genre by their emotions or body language or mood. If the character is a clumsy or funny you can figure out the genre is on comedy and associate the character to the film easily when introduced in the first two minutes. This makes the film more understandable in regards to genre as families or individuals can understand a rough judgement of the film from appearance, language and personality. Characters are also important in regards to setting the scene. Setting in a film is varied in relation to genre such as an eerie dark atmosphere for a Horror film or a modern, social area such as the city for a comedy. Setting What is setting?   Setting is the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where something is going to take place. It includes the time or geographical location in which the story takes place, it gives the story the main backdrop and mood for the storyline. The elements of setting may include the following things; culture, historical period, geography, hour, plot, character, theme and style. There are two types of setting which are backdrop setting and integral setting.
