MY IDEA SO FAR

My Ideas so far...

1)  Quite simply, your idea for your film opening so far.

The idea was to use a main character whom was similar age to us as a main character because it would help us make the film realistic and create a more accurate film based on our own knowledge. He would be a sporty character yet again based on our similar hobbies and we would base the opening scene on full focus on him to character build and help understand him rather than the plot. He would be preparing for a routinely run for fitness. however we would add tension and end with a cliff-hanger, seeing the main charter to portray as a 'good guy' and also add tension on suspense upon seeing an injured civilian and having a rush to saving the boy. we wold have a dramatic cliff hanger at the end of the scene to make the audience to continue to watch the film and to not make it boring. we focused more on camera shots and angles and character building rather than the plot so we leave questions to the audience making them watch more to answer their original questions.

2)  are you looking to work as a 1/2/3?

we are looking to work in a group of 3 to complete and work together on the coursework. we are all long term  friends who know each other well and are willing to work together as it makes it easier and we have similar opinions and still different with three people we can get three ideas to make one good one. This can make us get the best out of our coursework.

3)  what genre are you going to make your film in and why?

the genre we are making our film in would be the genre of action. We feel we could use our editing skills and also our liking and what we feel most comfortable with portraying an action because we watch many action films for inspiration and less for romance as we don't have interest in romance films and we wish to enjoy our film and have a target audience of our age.

4)  what narrative style are you willing to use and why?

The narrative stages we are hoping to use is...
  1. Opening: establishes setting and introduces character
  2. Build up: Relationships established. Development of characters and their world
  3. Problem: a dilemma or series of complications.  Characters are faced with an obstacle to overcome a mystery to solve, or often more than one
The narrative style used for a Action film is that we will use adrenaline pumping, fast and aggressive which includes a lot of suspense. This will lead the audiences adrenaline to rush as they are exciting and tense as you never know what will happen next.

5)  How many characters are you hoping to use in the opening scene and why?

We are hoping to use around 2-4 characters to help use more in depth character building to help build the understanding of our chosen characters personality towards the audience yet also keep the film simple and not confusing for the audience to help understand the plot and concentrate on who is the main character to make the film more simplistic.

6)  what locations are you willing to use and why?

The locations we are willing to use are local areas close to our homes to make it easier to film and we can spend more time at the location and we have a more in depth knowledge about the surrounding area and atmosphere. we also live in woodland area with little populated villages perfect for quiet and distraction of background noise or interruptions. We are willing to use my own home as a setting because its realistic and creates more space for camera angles and we can have more time due to artificial light or timing. we can also use the local park as its often unused and close to home with a big sparse area easy to film and to really make the use of a variety of camera angles.

7)  what have you decided you are definitely are not going to do?

We decided that we were not going to do any other genre except action due to what we felt comfortable with and most familiar to as we were previously influenced by action films and we have little knowledge and interest in romance or horror and a main part of this is we want to enjoy our film our self. We also decided we were not going to delay or be unorganised with our film and get it done early so we had less pressure on our hands and were more relaxed with the film edits. We were also not gong to film near or with gravestones in mark of respect or use any property of private or personal use.

8)  use / don't use dialogue

There will be minimal dialogue as the main character is alone for two thirds of the film therefore naturally he is quiet as normal people or his role of character doesn't often talk to himself. But in interaction with other characters or the use of flashbacks dialogue will be short and simple to keep the film simple and understandable. It will also be clear accents and dialogue so the audience doesn't have trouble understanding the dialogue. The dialogue may also be louder to coincide with the genre of action and to create a tense and a increasing suspense atmosphere.

9)   use / don't use a soundtrack

we will use a energetic sound track to energise the audience and build up a feel good feeling making the film more enjoyable yet understandable as the films plot will fit in with the music
we will use a dramatic soundtrack to build suspense and create an energetic scene giving off adrenaline to the audience and creating a feel good feeling as you start to understand the genre and personality of the character making you feel good about the film.

10)  break / don't break the 4th wall?

We will not break the 4th wall because we wanted to make the film realistic and not have the character interacting with the camera because the camera in the film world isn't there and this is to help understand the character better as he is himself rather than 'showing off' to the camera or being a different character misleading you leading to confusion.

11)  use / don't use narration

we wont use narration because it was not suitable for the film because it doesn't fit in or the films we were influenced by fitted better with a soundtrack such as 'Rocky'. we prefer to use for music as it builds more of a suspense atmosphere which is wanted in the opening two minutes. Moreover, we believe narration will be mixed with dialogue confusing the audience and this could lead to confusion and they will not continue to watch or favour the film therefore will not use narration in order to keep our film simple, fun and understandable.

12)  what genre will your film be?

the genre we are making our film in would be the genre of action. We feel we could use our editing skills and also our liking and what we feel most comfortable with portraying an action because we watch many action films for inspiration and less for romance as we don't have interest in romance films and we wish to enjoy our film and have a target audience of our age. Action will be more appealing to people at our similar age at with our skills will be our best option yet more enjoyable when it comes down to the filming.

13)  any particular camera shots or angles you are wanting to use?

I would like to use a close up shot  as with this shot we can use a blurred out of the background and show like a dazed like realistic state of physical decay as the actors eyes are the camera angle looking up with a blurred effect and concentration on the main character. it is used to get in the mind of the character and provide expression to make the audience feel very uncomfortable or very comfortable. I would also like to use a long shot to portray his whole body and figure and surroundings to get a feel for the settings and drag the attention away from the main character and more on the plot and events that are being built up.
