Coursework Practice

What was the task?
The task we have been set by Mr Cole is going to be completed over the half term and we have been told to put together the opening two minutes of a film. It needs to include the following things; a lady/man aged 50+, on a bus/train, a spade, a streetlight, bright clothes. The plot line we come up with has to include them ideas which includes the setting, cast, costume, prop and lighting.

What elements of mise-en-scene were given?
Mise-en-scene is placement of props on stage to give a realism effect or a purpose to give a scene a more realistic approach. we were given: a 50+ year old adult, colourful clothing, spade, streetlight and a bus or train. this was all chosen at random and it is very hard to link in but the art is that you can make anything with any mise-en-scene elements as it shows originality and creativity.

Initial plot ideas
We first thought of filming on a bus as we had to include a bus or train in the video opening. instead we decided to film next to a bus running to chase the victim he needs to kill.We thought of this as we had to include bright clothing such as colourful socks. as the spade on a pack of cards. However we decided to not do this and instead film next to a bus running to chase the victim he needs to kill. They will then have a day on the beach where building sand castles will feature the spade.

Casting ideas

We have two people that we will be using as characters, they are my younger brother and another member of the group(Jordan R)'s granddad in order to meet the requirements of having a man over the age of 50. We originally planned on just using Jordan's granddad but we think it will be better to include another character to create a better opening. The casting ideas changed so we used a male teacher and a friend of ours called Joe Rose.
Location ideas and research
With the character being 50+ and not knowing many people above that age which is available, we got a teacher that works in the school we study at therefore having access to using him as an extra was simple to include. Using the school as our location fit our new plot idea therefore we used it.

Prop research and ideas
A spade, colourful clothing, street light, bus or train and a football. this gives realism and also just adds extra detail and gives a sense of creativity.

Costume ideas and research

. The only piece of costume we plan on using is the bright clothes which was included in our must have stuff. To do this we have planned on having one of our characters wear a colour pink socks in order to meet the criteria.
Lighting ideas and research
We believed it would be best to film outside during the day and take advantage of the natural lighting but also the lighting from a street light maybe at early morning of a train or the street light. we knew that trains and buses will have lights but also at a time we have to rely on good weather to make sure we get the best from the natural lightening from the sun.

Target audience and feedback
Are target audience is going to be aimed at people aged 16+ due to the violence scenes used in the film. The target audience went down well with classmates as they believe the intended purpose of the film is for action/horror fans.

Filming plan scheme
We have planned on filming on either of the two following days but it depends on the weather due to our plot idea, the days are Thursday the 27th or Friday the 28th. We have checked the weather and it says that over the half term it is cloudy but windy therefore we have given two days so we can pick on the day if the weather is suitable to record in because the wind may disturb the recording. Due to the weather we filmed on a different date which was Sunday the 30th.

Find idea
at first we were completely out of ideas due to such a diverse elements on mise-en-scene however we slowly got brainstorming when Jordan Rolf Granddad was willing to film then we said he lives by the sea and we knew we could fit in a spade there, we could also get a bus or train there to film which helped to start sparking ideas and piecing them together also him being a Norwich fan also helped him wear a florescent Norwich shirt to hit the criteria of colourful clothing. The whole idea had to change due to the location so we changed the genre from adventure to a action/horror where a teenager sneaks into a school and murders a lab technician.

Find characters and casting
We have two people that we will be using as characters, they are my younger brother and another member of the group(Jordan R)'s granddad in order to meet the requirements of having a man over the age of 50. We originally planned on just using Jordan's granddad but we think it will be better to include another character to create a better opening. We did end up changing the characters due to the group being unavailable to get to our original location therefore we included Joe Rose and a male teacher from our school.

Find location
With the character being 50+ and not knowing many people above that age which is available, we got a relative whom lives away in Goulston by the sea side. therefore we decided we would film by where he lived and also by filming there we can realistically bring in a spade by the beach so it serves a realistic purpose. we looked at local areas and Yarmouth and also a train station however, we believed it was considerable to film nearby our actors address. This was our original idea but we changed it, instead we used Joe Rose and an extra of a male school teacher whop would meet the requirements of the man aged 50+. We filmed in our school in order to include the elderly man to make things easier for ourselves.

Prop list
A spade, colourful clothing, street light, bus or train and a football. this gives realism and also just adds extra detail and gives a sense of creativity.

Costume
The only piece of costume we plan on using is the bright clothes which was included in our must have stuff. To do this we have planned on having one of our characters wear a pair of colourful pink socks which is bright therefore fits the criteria

Find Lightening plans
We believed it would be best to film outside during the day and take advantage of the natural lighting but also the lighting from a street light maybe at early morning of a train or the street light. we knew that trains and buses will have lights but also at a time we have to rely on good weather to make sure we get the best from the natural lightening from the sun.
